· Icon: http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/94060318/23442361
· Appearance: Jessi is a tiny little thing, four ten and a half. She looks like she could easily be broken in half with narrow shoulders and thin wrists. Her wings are small, black, and downy, and she cannot bring them in, even if she tries. She has a wide face, and her eyes tend to have bags under them. She has a horrible fashion obsession, and always looks well-put together, even though she shouldn't put so much time into her appearance. Her hair is naturally black and falls just below her shoulders. She usually keeps her hair highlighted.
· Personality: Jessi very rarely thinks about herself. She is almost completely selfless. Everything she has done in her life has been for other people. She can't help feeling the need to help other people. She's gone into debt in order to make sure her friends were okay. She donates to charity and makes the time in order to volunteer at the local hospital, homeless shelter, and retirement home.

She has a very difficult time saying no to anyone, which makes her a rather ineffective parent and a pushover of a friend. She's very easy to manipulate and take advantage of. However, when it does involve helping other people, she somehow manages to garner some spine. But only on the behalf of others.

Most of the time, she's rather sweet and silly. She's rather smart, but it's hard to tell from the way she comes off. She learned a long time ago that it's easier to let people just think you're dumb. It's very uncommon to see her without a smile on her face at this point in her life, even though things are pretty stressful and her life has mainly sucked.
· History: Jessi grew up Lily Yoshiko Fuchizaki in the suburbs of California. Her father was an Angel of Knowledge and her mother was an Angel of Healing. Her brother and her older sister were also angels of knowledge. Kaden, her older brother, spent most of his early childhood physically and emotionally torturing her. Her mother had a pretty good idea of what was going on, consistently healing Lily's injuries, but with the power dynamic between her and her husband, doing anything about it was impossible. It didn't help that Kaden was the golden boy of the family. Emotional abuse, as well as some physical abuse was common enough in the household anyway. Your happiness was based on your grades. In the Fuchizaki household, if you didn't have good enough grades, you didn't get Christmas. Or an allowance.

When Kaden gained his wings, he stopped the physical abuse, but ramped up on the emotional abuse, studying his sister as if she were a test subject. It was impossible for Lily to keep her grades up with his abuse. It was impossible for her to do almost anything. But she truly, honestly loved her brother and refused to listen to people who told her he wasn't fixable.

When she got her wings, she only became more of a disappointment to her father; naturally, he was hoping she'd be an angel of knowledge as well. He didn't talk to her for about two weeks. Kaden went away to college, and her life became a little more livable. But when he came home for breaks, things were even worse than they had been originally. Eventually, right before she turned 18, she talked to a teacher. Kaden was put in mandated therapy, but he quickly “proved” to the therapist that he was fine.

She was too afraid of his retaliation to stay. She packed up her things and left home the day she turned eighteen, fleeing to Chicago, mostly because she knew a place with that many supernaturals would be an easy place to hide. The moment she got off the bus she ran into her first ward, James Jackson. He was a bit of a bleeding heart himself and he just couldn't let her run off to some motel room on her own. It was a bit of a learning curve, telling him about angels, but the two got along wonderfully. One of the first things she took care of was a name change, to make it more difficult for her brother to find her (Jessi Kaori Tanaka).

He refused to let her run off to some motel room and basically manipulated her into staying with him until she could properly get on her feet. He also manipulated her into getting her GED (she had to drop out of school to run away) and going back to school. She started working part time at a grocers. The two did eventually get into a romantic relationship and due to Jessi's naivety she became pregnant.

The two of them had a lovely shotgun wedding. Unfortunately, shortly after the wedding, James was diagnosed with late-stage cancer. He died three months before Jessi's baby was due. The only thing that helped her get through losing both her husband and her ward was the fact that she refused to lose the baby. It was the last part of her late husband she had left. And Kaden had taught her to withstand great amounts of emotional turmoil.

His life insurance was more than enough to cover most of the funeral expenses and the social security as well as the pension from his job was enough to make sure that she wouldn't have to worry too much about money. She's currently finishing her degree at the University of Chicago (this spring semester will be her last) after having worked up from community college. She still works part-time at the grocery store, although, she's not bagging anymore; she manages inventory.

Part of her wanted to drop out of school and just take care of Justin, her child, at that point, but she knew that James would have wanted her to at least finish her degree. She took one semester off and asked Mariah, her mother-in-law, to watch Justin while she's working or in class. When he turned two, she started putting him in daycare.
· Justin's Appearance: Justin looks whiter than he does Japanese. He's still got some baby fat on him, even at three, and is a pudgy little thing. His hair is thin, almost-black, and by the end of the day, he's messed it up and it's flying everywhere. He's usually in pretty practical clothes (he loves overalls) because no matter how much Jessi loves fashion, she's well aware that her son destroys clothing.
· Justin's Personality: Jessi isn't the best parent, due to the fact that it's hard for her to say no to just about anyone. Justin is used to getting what he wants, as long as it isn't too extravagant. He gets pretty frustrated when things don't go his way, often to the point of throwing temper tantrums in public. Generally, he's a good kid, though, a bit too talkative and a bit too rough-and-tumble, but he's got plenty of friends at his daycare and they've never complained about him. Mariah tends to be a bit more of a real parental figure in his life, which helps with his attitude.
· Writing Sample: "Are you sure you're okay watching him tomorrow tonight?" Jessi asks, flitting around the kitchen as she prepares supper. It's all boxes and cans tonight: boxed macaroni and cheese, canned green beans, and canned fruit salad. It's been a long time since she's had the time to put a decent meal together for the two of them. Stepping away from the stove, she looks back at Justin, coloring on the table.

"I just don't want to impose. I mean, I could take him to work with me if need be..." She took the phone away from her ear for a second. "Justin, sweetie, go wash your hands alright?"

Justin pouts, pushing himself away from the table and toddles off to the bathroom, the crayons falling to the floor.

"Yeah, I know," she says absently into the phone. "Thank you again. I honestly don't know what I'd do without you. You're a lifesaver." Just like James, Mariah always offered, rather than waiting for her to ask. She hangs up, opening up the cabinets to get out the plates. She knows she needs to learn how to ask for help, but she really wants to be able to handle all of this on her own.
